Some researchers argue that a gentleman by the name of Blaise Pascal developed and engineered the very first Roulette gaming wheel in the mid 1700s. Pascal is a noted mathematician, and one who had a tremendous fascination for numbers and movable devices; he then unified these interests by creating a Roulette wheel.

By the mid 1800s, Roulette history changed again when Louis Blanc and Francois Blanc decided to tack on an additional pocket to the Roulette wheel and, in turn, added the single zero compartment that is currently present on the European versions of this intensely loved game. The additional pocket was included in the newer version of the Roulette wheel so that the House had a better competitive edge when playing against players for money. This version of the Roulette wheel introduced a new beginning for Roulette history as the wheel was released in Germany instead of France.

The eighteen century saw the migration of the Roulette wheel and game into American territory. Not satisfied with a single-zero compartment only, the double zero compartment was added to the now understood American Roulette wheel. This again, increased house odds even further.
